Wonder Woman has long been a symbol of girl power. Whether in print, animated, or live action with Lynda Carter. She’s the epitome of a powerful woman, a goddess. When Lynda Carter took up the role in 1975 she soon became an icon herself. To this day she is still Wonder Woman in the hearts and minds of millions. Recently, Israeli actress and beauty queen (like Lynda herself) Gal Gadot donned the lasso and bracelets in Batman v Superman. She’s noticeably more badass than she was in the Fast and Furious franchise. To step into this role she had to get into Amazon shape along with the rest of her cast. Of course she trained with Mark Twight to do so. In this workout we’ll be extrapolating different methods used to get her into goddess shape. When looking into Gadot’s official workout regime a recurring theme popped up - metabolic conditioning. You might be familiar with this from the Cyborg workout. It seems Gadot, too, followed CrossFit style workouts. So now that we know this, let’s adapt it to Progressive Calisthenics.

Cyborg is a relative new comic book character. While the character was introduced 36 years ago, he’s not super popular. As a nerd, I consider a character really popular when they are recognizable to those non-nerd peoples. Cyborg has enjoyed increasing popularity over the decades. Especially when the original Teen Titans series aired over a decade ago. In 2011 DC launched the New 52, which established Cyborg as a founding member of the Justice League. In the upcoming Justice League film he will be portrayed by a burgeoning actor named Ray Fisher. To fulfill this role, Ray had to get into college football shape to play the half man half machine. In this workout, we’re going to work like a machine to get into bionic shape. The Flash is one of the most iconic superheroes of all time. Known for his speed and wit, he has been a member of the Justice League since it’s inception. His cunning and speed have made him a valued asset in some of the comic book world’s most crucial conflicts. And he’s evolved over the years. If you haven’t been keeping up with comics over the years, things have changed for the better. The Flash was already the fastest superhero in any company’s mythos - both canon and non-canon. But his use of the speed force has only improved. His travels through time and space have become more common and pivotal. And he has extrapolated from the speed force more power than any other user. Next year we get to see much of this come to life through the origin story of the JLA. One of my favorite actors, Ezra Miller, will be tapping into the speedforce to bring the comic world to the silver screen. To do so, he had to get in superhero shape before he could take up the mantle of the Flash. We haven’t gotten any official workouts for Miller or Ray Fisher (Cyborg), so once again I’ll have to improvise. This workout will be a simple full body split for hypertrophy. The catch - it’s a circuit, to get you in and out of the gym (or wherever you workout) in a Flash (don’t judge me). I’m also including a sample sprint interval that alternates sprints with burpees. |
