10/1/2021 0 Comments Daredevil/Charlie Cox Workout Okay, so things are heating up over at Marvel. The MCU is in full effect with the Dr.Strange film dropping next month. Hot on the heels of their newest series - Luke Cage. And while I’m not sure if I’ll be doing a Dr.Strange workout (he’s just not that type of hero), I would be remiss not to give you a workout for the MCU show that broke the mold - Daredevil. As you all know I am a huge nerd. And I wanted to share this workout, not only for edutainment purposes, but in anticipation of the upcoming “The Defenders” series.
Daredevil
One of my favorite superheroes ever, especially from Marvel, Daredevil is the hero that started it all when it comes to MCU shows. I know that we’d already had Agents of SHIELD but to be honest, it was not all that interesting and did not have that wow factor. And I am far from the only person who holds that notion. When Daredevil premiered on Netflix it broke the mold. It could take a lot more liberties because it was on Netflix, sure. But the choreography, the cinematography, the plot - it was all just really refreshing for a superhero show. If you don’t know anything about Daredevil then allow me to regale you. By day Matt Murdock is an elite defense attorney. Arguably the best in New York and in some continuities one of the best in the world. But when he’s not prosecuting in the courtroom he’s persecuting on the streets. He’s a world class acrobat, an expert martial artist, and Olympic-level athlete. He also has immense control of his internal energy (ki/qi). Now that may be unimpressive at first but one crucial oversight (no pun intended) is that he is completely blind. He compensates for this, however, by having an incredible and near human sensory perception with all of his other senses. Too much to include here. But to give you a solid idea, he’s able to perceive the world as 3D and 360 degree picture, so to speak. So now you have a general idea of Daredevil. If you hadn’t already for whatever crazy reasons. To see just how badass he is I suggest you watch both season of series on Netflix before The Defenders premieres next year. You can also check out the links below. Charlie Cox Charlie Cox is the unexpected awesome actor who portrays Daredevil in the Netflix series. Honestly, I hadn’t expected him to be as great as he was as DD/Matt Murdock but he’s a natural. I had only seen him prior to this in Boardwalk Empire as a retired soldier/active gangster and he was incredible. To get prepared for the role, he did a good amount of combat training - mainly pugilism - along with a lot of lifting and resistance training. In fact, he trained a lot like me. Using lots of compound movements for resistance training and using combat training for conditioning. Now, via the resources provided I am not sure if this training split had him doing these workouts on alternating days. I would imagine so, but I can’t know for sure. However, I do know what his workouts consisted of. So I will extrapolate something practical and applicable from what’s been provided. The Workout This workout will be based on the only even semi legitimate source available. Of course, it’ll be adapted for Bar Athletes. It’s a 3 days on;2 days off split. With those two days being dedicated to combat conditioning. Let’s get started. Full Body A/B
Combat Conditioning (5-10 Rounds)
A quick word on this workout:
In Conclusion
This workout is just a first in a series of many for “The Defenders”. As more heroes/cast members are confirmed more workouts will be added. But you can already expect an Iron Fist workout, an Elektra workout, and even a Punisher workout, among others. I wanted to start with Daredevil because he’s my favorite out of all of them and to be honest, I did not have this blog when the series first premiered. So I though it would be a great addition to the archives. Be on the lookout for the next workout in this series and feel free to leave a comment below whether it’s about fitness, comics, or both.
