Now that BarLords is once again PrymaFit, I wanted to officially introduce the classes of physiques that fall inline with the PrymaFit philosophy and approach. Many brands have something similar, but it is not as comprehensive and is somewhat gimmicky. The difference with PrymaFit is that I will be combining my love and knowledge of Physical Culture with my love and knowledge of comic books, video games, and pop culture. Overview Rather than a gimmick or personal view of physiques and body types, this is simply a method to sort of codify them. It’s not based solely on appearance but on performance and attributes. Each type of physique will have its own inherent advantages. Advantages that could be somewhat obvious but will be expounded and focused on. I’m not presenting this to you as a way to focus solely on aesthetics, but again to show the advantages of having certain levels of leanness and muscular development. Especially if one’s goal is to spend a good amount of time developing their body to look a certain way. This is physical culture. The precursor to modern fitness culture. The goal is to be well rounded and balanced in our approach to fitness and training. And because I understand that many people have in mind what they want to look like, and what these looks exude, I figured I should go beyond what modern fitness does when helping you reach your goals and bring back physical culture to this approach. The physique classes will follow something similar to an RPG. You’ll have that aesthetic but you’ll also have an understanding of the inherent attributes and advantages of it. And there will, realistically, be some overlap. The physique classes are as follows:
The Prymal Rogue PhysiqueThis the leanest of the physiques. Think Bruce Lee, Brad Pitt as Tyler Durden, Bi Rain (Ninja Assassin), and Zac Efron in Baywatch. You’ll have a pretty impressive level of muscular development. A foundation. But you’ll also have a pretty low body fat percentage. Somewhere in the range of 6-8%. You can be as lean as naturally and functionally possible. Keep in mind that you can not have excessive muscle mass and deficient body fat simultaneously. Not without drugs. I’m not going to regurgitate the same old mixture of science and anecdote about body fat percentages and so on. Instead I will say that if this is your goal physique and you’re a physical culturist, especially one heavily influenced by calisthenics, you should use leanness and lightness of this physique to your advantage. How? There are two very coveted attributes that become easier to develop the leaner you are that I will focus on when catering to the Rogue physique. They are muscular endurance and explosive strength. Static strength is also a lot easier to develop the leaner you are. And while I may share workouts and tutorials for that, I’m not going to reinvent the wheel by making programs for it. Now, I’m not saying that you can’t develop these attributes without being lean and light. Only that it can become significantly easier when training properly and effectively. These attributes of aesthetics and performance complement each other well. And there is a world of possibility when it comes to programming and periodization for these attributes. If you want to make the most out of this physique incorporate some high rep workouts, hypertrophy circuits, and explosive strength work to bring out the function of this form. The Champion PhysiqueYou guys who are inspired by Chris Evans and Pratt, Ryan Reynolds, Jai Courtney, Jason Momoa, Omari Hardwick, and the like; this is what you’re after. What is essentially a balance between good body fat percent and impressive muscular development. Don’t let the industry fool you with their exaggerations. These guys are lean and shredded to an extent, but often times it’s nothing south of 8 or 9% body fat. And usually nothing north of 12 percent. This is not set in stone and this is where overlap comes into play. You can have fit-spiration and physique goals all you want. But you are you. You can have everything in common with the next athlete or trainee, but you will never share the same genetics. This is why you will see so many workouts tagged with the same type of physique on this site, but many obvious and subtle differences in physique. A good example is Chris Hemsworth and Henry Cavill. Both are nearly the same height and weight in their superhero roles. But Hemsworth’s chest does not stand out as much as Cavill’s. And Cavill’s arms don’t stand out as much as Hemsworth’s. However, aesthetics is only one facet of fitness. As I said before we need to consider performance. The main attributes of physical culture that should be developed for this physique are functional hypertrophy and dynamic strength. When it comes to calisthenics, these two attributes often go hand-in-hand. Dynamic strength is working movements such as muscle ups, handstand push ups, one arm chins and push ups, and so on. Functional hypertrophy is hypertrophy that improves performance in one or more areas, to put it simply. Some of the best ways for a physical culturist to train for and maintain this physique is German Body Recomp Training, Powerbuilding, and if you really want to reach new heights - Ring/Suspension Training. These will serve to keep you powerful and well rounded. The Paragon PhysiqueThose of you who want get big or yoked - within natural reason - this is typically what you’re aiming for. Think Chris Hemsworth, Henry Cavill, Jason Momoa (Bad Batch), Mark Wahlberg, David Ramsey, Sly Stallone, Joe Manganiello and the like. You should already know by now that one of the keys to this physique is not only great muscular development, but a slightly higher body fat percent. Again, don’t be fooled by hollywood sensationalism. These guys all have body fat somewhere between 10-14% or even a bit higher. There goes that overlap and genetics again. Everyone will carry this type of body composition differently. But the rules still apply. You can’t be big and shredded and natural. In fact, think of big and shredded as polar opposites. Because they are. And they are completely different goals. Now that you’ve got that through your head let’s talk about the attributes of the Paragon Physique. Don’t be big for nothing. And being that getting stronger is paramount to getting bigger, it would behoove you to develop your relative and natural strength. For a physical culturist the answer is easy. Powerlifting, Powerbuilding, Olympic Lifting, Girevoy Training - you get it. PrymaFit embraces all methods but is calisthenics centered. So here we use specialized weighted calisthenics programming to reach the Paragon level. This entails working to increase relative and absolute strength through personal records and one rep maxes, mostly. You can take a look at the Justice League series of workouts to get an idea of how that’s done. Conclusion
The only thing that pushed me to make these physique classes was my love of bringing comic book and gaming culture to physical culture. However, I saw that it was necessary to shift the focus solely from aesthetics and get people thinking about performance as well. This isn’t meant to be dogmatic in anyway. Which is why I pointed out that there will always be overlap and not everyone can be boxed in due to genetic diversity. That is one of two main takeaways I want you all to make note of after reading this. Along with the fact that form follows function. And if you’re going to develop your body for a certain aesthetic, you should take into consideration your performance and make the most of that as well.
