There has recently been a fitness challenge that has gone viral. People all over the world are completing the 22 pushup challenge in honor of the disparaging average of 22 suicides committed by veterans per year. I would like to take this opportunity to bring light to other problems that are affecting veterans nationwide. These issues hit home for me, not only because I come from a family littered with veterans. Not because I have veterans in my family tree dating back to the founding of this country. But because I genuinely love my country. The recent pushup challenge had my big brother and I thinking last night. We thought about how hard it hit home. And I thought of expanding the challenge even further. Here's why. Did you know that there are over 3million disabled veterans? Did you know that there are nearly 50,000 homeless veterans at any given point? Did you know that it has been reported that at least 20% of veterans of the Iraq and Afghanistan wars have PTSD or depression? These are striking figures. Indicative of an epidemic among our servicemen and women who signed their lives to this country. It seems that with each passing year, they get less in return. I feel as though challenges like the 22 pushup are great and much needed. They bring attention to a demographic of society that is honored on one hand. But forgotten on the other. So it is with this article that I propose a new challenge. The 220 rep challenge. It will be hard for some, and for others a cake walk. However, it could never amount to what our servicemen and women endure just to earn their titles of their respective branch. Or what they endure over the course of their careers. Especially while deployed. Likewise, it can never amount to what their families and loved ones have to go through on their darkest of days. So it is with this challenge that I not only challenge your strength, endurance, physical and mental fortitude. But I challenge you to help bring light to these major problems of homelessness, poor health care, mental illness and suicide that face our veterans at every waking moment. Please share this workout and please remember everyone deployed. If you can only do this workout once - do it on RED Friday. Thank you all.
In Conclusion
I would like to thank everyone who took the time to read, share, and do this challenge. These are serious matters that our veterans face and they shouldn’t have to do it alone. We can all bring awareness to this and help make a difference. You may think it’s just a challenge. But doing things like this, putting forth this type of effort, helps these veterans know that we care. And that they’re not alone. And it calls attention to these problems so that we can all take a greater collective action to bring a positive change to their situation. Once again if you can only do this once, please do it on RED Friday. Please Remember Everyone Deployed. Again, thank you all so much. I truly feel for all of our veterans. Participating in and sharing this makes a world of difference to me and lets me know that the world at large cares about our heroes. Bless You Yours in Bodyweight Badassery, BarLord
